Сенсорная сеть является сегодня устоявшимся термином, обозначающим распределенную, самоорганизующуюся, устойчивую к отказу отдельных элементов сеть миниатюрных электронных устройств, обменивающихся информацией по беспроводным каналам связи, необслуживаемых и не требующих специальной установки. Ключевой особенностью сенсорных сетей является способность ретрансляции сообщений от одного элемента к другому, что позволяет передавать информацию на значительное расстояние при малой мощности передатчиков.
